Potato Cheese Casserole

My mother used to make this all the time for company.
It browns beautifully.

24 to 30 ounces of frozen hash brown  potatoes, or fresh
1/2 pint whipping cream
1/2 pint half and half
American cheese, grated
Sharp cheddar cheese
salt and pepper
  1. Thaw potatoes, if frozen, and place in a flat 2 quart casserole.
  2. Salt and pepper the potatoes.
  3. Sprinkle generously with grated American cheese.
  4. Top with the cheddar and pour the creams over all.
  5. Bake 350 degrees about 1 1/2 hours or until brown and bubbly.
