Homemade Fudgy Brownies


There is nothing like the smell of brownies cooking.  These are worth the extra effort.
 
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
2/3 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 t. vanilla
1 1/4 c. flour
1 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
  1. Heat oven to 350°.
  2. Grease a 13x9x2 inch baking pan.
  3. Melt chocolate and shortening in a large saucepan over low heat.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Mix in sugar, eggs and vanilla.
  6. Stir in remaining ingredients and spread in pan.
  7. Bake 30 minutes or until brownies start to pull away from the sides of the pan.  Do not overbake.
  8. Cool slightly.
  9. Cut into bars, about 2x1 1/2 inches.
