Snickerdoodle Cookies


2½ c. flour
2 t. baking powder
½ t. salt
½ c. softened butter
½ c. shortening (Crisco)
1 1/3 cups light brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
1/3 c. chopped nuts (optional)
¼ c. granulated sugar
1 t. cinnamon  
  1. Sift the first 3 ingredients together.
  2. Cream butter, shortening, and brown sugar thoroughly.
  3. Beat in the eggs and vanilla.
  4. Add dry ingredients and mix well.
  5. Fold in the nuts.
  6. Wrap dough in plastic and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Mix the cinnamon and sugar together.
  8. shape level tablespoons of dough into balls.
  9. Roll balls in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  10. Place balls 2" apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
  11. Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes or until set.
  12. Cool on a wire rack.
