Tomato Bread

My family always made this when I was a kid.  My mom used thick slices of mozzarella.  It was heavy so I would make it with less cheese and make sure you go easy on the garlic butter.

1 loaf French or Italian Bread
1/4 stick butter with 1 pressed clove garlic, melted together
4 large ripe tomatoes
1/2 t. oregano
dash paprika
shredded mozzarella cheese
salt and pepper to taste
  1. Slice bread lengthwise, spread with garlic butter.
  2. Place under the broiler until golden.
  3. Slice tomatoes 1/8" thick.
  4. Saute in garlic butter for a short time.
  5. Place tomatoes on the bread.
  6. Sprinkle with cheese and a little paprika.
  7. Broil until the cheese is just melted.
  8. Cut in to bite sized pieces.
