You're looking at a picture of the best recipe for Wecca ever devised. Problem is it's top secret! This is Anne and it's a family recipe. I was at her house for a dinner for a large crowd and she was making it for dinner. I arrived early to help and remember seeing the pot in a warm corner of the kitchen with the Wecca just oozing over the pan. It was a beautiful site...like a living breathing thing. The final loaves were large, braided, soft and served warm from the oven. Heaven. Here is a little background according to Anne's husband Fred:
The Wecca came from my mother and before that from her mother or father. My mother only made it for our Thanksgiving dinner, once a year.
At that time it had to be kneaded by hand, blending the flour in gradually until she got it the right texture. It would take hours. Anne has a bread mixer making it much less labor intensive, so makes if often for special occasions. For the first ten years of our marriage mother wouldn't give Anne the recipe. Had to get to know her.
